Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies Mascara - £7.99

I was first converted to The Falsies when it came through my door as a magazine subscription freebie, two years later and I'm still a religious user. A testament to its charms, The Falsies does such a good job that I'm not even tempted to test out any other mascaras - something I never thought I'd hear myself say. I must have tried out dozens of brands in the past, but for some reason I've always found that high-street options like Maybelline seem to work better than their luxury counterparts. Can anyone explain this? It's a mystery to me!

Anyways, back to the product at hand! Part of the Maybelline Volum' Express range, The Falsies promises a wink of false lashes in a tube. Its patented spoon brush fans out lashes from corner to corner, while the pro-keratin formula builds maximum volume with minimum clumping. Maybelline must be doing something right because, apart from taking up a permanent residence in my makeup bag, The Falsies was voted in to win a prestigious Sunday Times Style Beauty Award this year.

To achieve the look in the photo above, I quickly curled my lashes then applied two coats of The Falsies. If I'm going out for the evening and after a more dramatic lash look, I'll usually apply a few coats more. The trick to avoid clumping is not to let your lashes dry between each coat! To make the most out of the unique brush shape, apply with the spoon side upwards (the way you'd hold a regular spoon) and sweep from root to tip, zig-zagging from side to side for extra volume.

As you can see from the photos, my lashes tend to naturally be a smidgen shorter at the outer corners (again, if anyone could please explain why?!) so on special occasions, I'll add a few individual false lashes for more of a feline shape. The results from The Falsies alone are truly amazing though, and the mascara really does live up to its claim of providing 300% more visible lashes - these longer, thicker lashes seem to have come out of nowhere!
