Estée Lauder Modern Muse Le Rouge Perfume

Estée Lauder Modern Muse Le Rouge Eau de Parfum 50ml - £64*

Estée Lauder will forever remind me of my mother and her unreachable, sparkling dressing table when I was a child. She had a line of Lauder lipsticks and Pleasures perfume I was Not. Allowed. To. Touch. But of course I did, who could resist that ridged gold lipstick packaging (very similar to the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution tubes today). I would sneak up there while she took a phone call, to paint and spritz myself into faux-sophistication.

These days I have my own (rather excessive) dressing table cosmetics collection and any chance to add to it still fills me with excitement. That's why I was so beyond happy to be invited to the Estée Lauder Modern Muse Le Rouge event at the Chiltern Firehouse, the day before my birthday. We had the most incredible food and Modern Muse Le Rouge themed cocktails (who knew a perfume could be so delicious), while getting to test out the scent and Kendall Jenner's signature lipstick, Restless - a poppy red-meets-orange crush shade that flattered everyone who tried it.

Onto the scent! As I'd always associated Estée Lauder perfumes with a more grown up audience, I really had no idea what to expect from the Kendall Jenner-fronted Modern Muse Le Rouge. Luckily, I was pleasantly surprised... it was love at first sniff!

The fragrance is designed to give a 'duel impression', with two contrasting and complementing accords. The first is a juicy blend of ripe red berries and fresh roses (that aren't the slightest bit powdery, thank gaaaad). The second is a sensual combination of vanilla, patchouli, musky ambrette and jasmine.

It's described by the brand as an 'Oriental floral', which sounds pretty generic... but I've never smelt anything quite like it - the fruity top notes blend so seamlessly with the rich creaminess of the base, and I'm such a sucker for a creamy base (that's not an innuendo). It's fun and youthful but somehow timeless and subtly seductive. As always with Lauder, the perfume has great sillage and longevity.

This is one of the scents I'll spray on then not be able to keep my nose away from my wrist all day, despite the weird looks on the tube. It got the boyfriend and mum seal of approval too, so this one's definitely taking pride of place on my dressing table right now.
