Model Moment: Charli Howard

Today's model moment really is the model of the moment - meet Charli Howard. If you've picked up a newspaper, looked on social media, listened to the radio or watched TV in the UK today, you might recognise her face. That's all thanks to an amazing open letter she posted to her former modelling agency (which you can read more about here), written after they dropped her for being 'too big' to model.

Having spoken to Charli a few times before (once to do this Girl Culture beauty interview in fact!), I spotted the post on my Facebook feed and instantly got in touch with her to do a piece. We were the first to cover it on HuffPost UK Style, and it's amazing to see how quickly her powerful message has spread.

Charli has shot huge campaigns for makeup brands Rodial, Ciaté and Illamasqua along with beauty editorials for magazines like Harper's Bazaar and Glamour - so it's safe to say she knows her stuff. Here's what happened when I asked her to share the tricks of the trade...

What’s the secret behind your amazing eyebrows?

"I don't pluck them and bush them up with Illamasqua Brow and Lash Gel - it's a miracle! But shh, don't tell anyone..."

What one beauty product would you take to a desert island?

"Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream, which is a wonder balm. Most people hate the smell but I love it. I'd mix it with sand to create an exfoliator, put it on my sunburn to cool it down and to heal it and then as a highlighter to accentuate my golden glow!"

What are some of your favourite products you’ve discovered through hair and makeup artists on photoshoots?

"I bet everyone says this, but Bioderma products are AMAZING! The cleanser is the only thing that gets every scrap of make-up off and I recently bought the Sebium Pore Refiner which acts as a great primer. Someone introduced me to the Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer, which acts as a concealer and foundation in one, depending on how heavy you want to go."

"Hair-wise, I love the Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray. I was also introduced to the amazing skin therapist, Teresa Tarmey - she's not a product, but she's certainly a favourite! I like the fact she acts like a friend rather than a beautician. She helped kickstart my skincare routine with facials, taught me about sun care and has every gadget under the sun to help make your skin amazing."

What does your daily make-up routine look like on a day off?

"I've got really sensitive skin so try not to do anything to it if I can. I ALWAYS wear a moisturiser with SPF in it (Avène Very High Protection Mineral Cream SPF 50+) - my mum is a redhead and I've inherited the pale gene, so sun care is vital. I love a good catflick though, I'd wear that every day if I could and makes me feel better if I'm not feeling very glamorous!"
